Caitlin's Book of the Month - April 2015
April is my favorite month of the year!
I love all things Easter-related, so when I went to the bookstore and found myself surrounded completely by rabbit books, I was delighted. But my heart skipped a beat when I found this gorgeous edition of The Velveteen Rabbit, which I've chosen as my Book of the Month.
Most of us teachers and parents are probably familiar with the story of the sweet sawdust rabbit on a journey to become real through the love of a child. Margery Williams' timeless tale was first published in 1922. It has been recopied and reproduced countless times. I saw velveteen rabbits that look like cartoon characters and the Easter Bunnies in in the malls. But this one is the real deal! The first edition was illustrated by William Nicholson. This copy uses his original artwork, digitally reproduced with the help of the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City. It i published by Doubleday, a division of Random House. I found it at Barnes and Noble.
This book would be a lovely gift that children can grow with and pass down. Besides the original artwork, this copy has gorgeous details, such as a dedication page, large font and the most beautiful cover I've ever seen on a children's book.
I'm so excited to share this treasure with you.
Happy April and Happy Reading!
