OUR COVID-19 RESPONSE

In addition to our initial response below, Dallas Afterschool is providing pass-through funding to partners to help them as they continue to recover from the pandemic. Details Here!

Leading the Out-of-School Time (OST) Community

Our virtual roundtable discussions offer thought leadership, practical solutions, information dissemination, and support for the OST educators and the OST community. Free training courses were also provided as an immediate response to COVID-19.

To sign up for virtual roundtables or to inquire about trainings, email: mmurat@dallasafterschool.org.

Implementing a Virtual Afterschool Platform for Students

Dallas Afterschool piloted a Virtual Afterschool platform with middle school students this summer at the For Oak Cliff community center. Because of its early success in safely engaging and supporting students, we will be expanding this platform to select sites this fall.

Check out this video the students created! They also named the platform and designed the logo.

Providing Online and On-Demand Training for OST Educators

DAS360° offers our partners a virtual way to access quality information, professional development, and activities for children. It also provides access to the classes needed to meet licensing and funding requirements. For a sneak peak, check out this video.

DAS360° is available to current Dallas Afterschool partners. Learn more about becoming a Dallas Afterschool partner.

Developing Trauma-Informed Care Resources and Tools

Potentially losing loved ones to coronavirus along with forced social distancing can be stressful. Students will need trauma-informed care and social emotional learning tools to reclaim their joy once this period is over. Dallas Afterschool has developed these tools for our students and partner programs.

Offering Virtual Tutoring

Struggling parents have a new option for homework help with Virtual Tutoring, which allows them to hire a trained afterschool educator. This is a fee-based service, which goes directly to the tutor.

Supporting Medical Personnel, First Responders, and Essential Workers

We are actively working with the Dallas County Taskforce to identify solutions for families on the front lines of this disease. We are matching laid-off afterschool workers (trained and background checked) with employment opportunities at centers and in-home sites that are operating under the essential services provision.

Measuring the Impact of our COVID-19 Response

Dallas Afterschool was able to quickly pivot to meet the needs of students, families, and the OST community. Check out our Impact Report for COVID-19 with outcomes from our immediate response from March to June 2020.

Mobilizing Community Resources

COVID-19 has left many students without vital food and learning technology resources. We are actively connecting our programs and families with the resources they need to get through this difficult time. We are also assisting partners with PPE procurement so they have the tools needed to safely re-open.
